Does a Little Fat Hide a Thousand Flaws?
As a Plastic Surgeon, my answer is both yes and no. We want fat in areas like the face, but we don't want it on our abdomen, inner thighs, or outer thighs. A little excess fat in the “love handles” can be somewhat acceptable. However, we plastic surgeons can turn this excess fat tissue into an advantage. First, we perform liposuction to remove the excess fat, and then we can inject this sterilely harvested fat into areas with volume deficiencies, such as around the mouth, eyes, lips, breasts in some patients, and more. Since the fat comes from your own body, there is no risk of allergy. Moreover, the stem cells present in the fat contribute to rejuvenation by releasing cytokines in their new location.
If we want the harvested fat tissue to contain a higher concentration of stem cells, the fat can be processed through a special technique to create fat tissue rich in stem cells, which can then be reinjected into the patient. The only disadvantage is the risk of partial fat absorption; on average, about 60% of the injected fat volume remains permanently.
