Liposuction (Fat Removal)
Liposuction is a procedure that removes localized fat deposits in certain areas of the body that cause contour irregularities and disrupt body proportions. It helps slim and reshape the areas where it is applied. The regions that can be treated with liposuction include thighs, inner thighs, abdomen, waist, back, hips, and the inner side of the knees. Liposuction is not a weight-loss method and cannot replace diet and exercise.
Who is a good candidate for liposuction? (Who is a good candidate for fat removal?)
Patients who have reached their ideal weight, possess elastic skin, good muscle tone, and do not smoke are ideal candidates for liposuction. These patients often have fat deposits in specific areas that disrupt body contours and cannot be improved with diet or exercise. For such cases, liposuction offers an effective solution.
What are the risks of liposuction? (What are the risks of fat removal?)
Deciding to undergo plastic surgery is a highly personal choice. You should discuss the benefits and risks with your doctor before making a decision. Risks associated with liposuction include anesthesia-related risks, bruising, changes in skin sensation, damage to deeper structures such as blood vessels, nerves, and abdominal organs, asymmetries, contour irregularities, swelling, and delayed wound healing.
How should you prepare for liposuction? (How should you prepare for fat removal?)
You should stop smoking at least 4 weeks before the liposuction procedure. Additionally, stop taking dietary supplements and vitamins with blood-thinning properties at least 10 days before surgery.
- Pain relievers such as Apranax, Voltaren, Vermidon should be avoided (if necessary, Minoset or Novalgin can be used).
- Multivitamins containing Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, Co-enzyme Q, as well as green tea, flaxseed, cherry stems, tomato seeds, and all weight-loss products, should be discontinued 10 days prior to the procedure.
What is the recovery process like after liposuction? (What is the recovery process like after fat removal?)
After surgery, you will need to wear a special compression garment tailored to the treated areas (where fat was removed). This garment should be worn continuously for 6 weeks. You can shower while wearing this garment and use a hairdryer to dry it if necessary. After removing the garment, lymphatic drainage massage is recommended to accelerate the resolution of post-surgical swelling and minimize contour irregularities.
