UPPER EYELID AESTHETICS
Droopy upper eyelids can be congenital or acquired over time. The most common reason is the insufficient function of the eyelid muscles. In children, ptosis surgery may be performed early to prevent amblyopia (lazy eye), or it may be recommended during the preschool period to avoid social difficulties with peers. The surgical method depends on the strength of the patient's eyelid muscles. In congenital cases, where muscle activity is particularly low, the eyelid may be suspended to the forehead muscles for treatment. In age-related eyelid drooping, ptosis surgery can be combined with aesthetic eyelid surgery.
LOWER EYELID AESTHETICS
Lower eyelid aesthetics is considered in cases of excess skin, prominent and puffy fat pads, and deepened tear troughs. The primary goals of lower eyelid aesthetics include repositioning the midface, redistributing herniated fat pads rather than removing them, and filling the tear troughs. This surgery can be performed under local anesthesia and sedation. The incision is made along the lash line and blends into the natural skin fold, making it almost invisible.
Is lower eyelid aesthetics effective for under-eye dark circles?
Yes, lower eyelid aesthetics can effectively treat under-eye dark circles. By removing excess skin and filling the area beneath it with rich fat cells, the face appears fresher and younger.
Should midface lifting be done along with lower eyelid aesthetics?
It is strongly recommended to combine lower eyelid aesthetics with midface lifting. This shortens the elongated lower eyelid distance and prevents complications like ectropion (sagging of the lower eyelid). Additionally, it enhances the fullness of the midface and smooths out deep nasolabial folds.
Is fat injection recommended during lower eyelid surgery?
Yes, fat injection should be performed along with lower eyelid aesthetics. With aging, the fat compartments in the face lose volume, especially in the tear trough area, which should be addressed during the surgery.
What should you pay attention to before lower eyelid surgery?
Quitting smoking is crucial! Patients who do not stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery are not recommended for this procedure. If you have hypertension, ensure you take your medications regularly and consult your doctor to keep your blood pressure under control. Stop consuming green tea, parsley juice, arugula, and other leafy greens containing blood-thinning substances, as well as supplements like Q10 and fish oil, at least 10 days before surgery. Inform your doctor about any vitamins or supplements you are taking.
How long will you need to stay off work after lower eyelid surgery?
Swelling, puffiness, and bruising on the face are normal and will subside within 10 days. It may take at least three months for all swelling to completely resolve and for your facial contours to become fully defined. You can return to work after a week once all stitches are removed, applying makeup and sunscreen.
Should you continue under-eye fillers after lower eyelid surgery?
